Acquisition History

Buckeye Knob & the Barn Boulders, North Carolina - 2017

The Carolina Climbers Coalition (CCC) acquired Buckeye Knob, a 55-acre tract outside Boone, North Carolina. The purchase was made possible with a $120,000 loan from the Access Fund Climbing Conservation Loan Program. Local climbers kicked off fundraising and Access Fund provided a $5,000 grant to reduce the size of the loan. CCC and adjacent landowners also worked together to donate access and recreation easements, providing access to Buckeye Knob and permanent climbing access to the nearby Barn Boulders. The $145,000 purchase is the second largest purchase in CCC’s history and contains 500 boulders problems at all grades on high quality rock in a beautiful setting.
