West Rock Adopt a Crag

Ragged Mountain Foundation (RMF) and Access Fund are calling all volunteers for a day of service at West Rock in New Haven, Connecticut. You can register and find more details here.

There will be both light- and heavy-duty tasks and projects. RMF provide tools and garbage bags. Please bring gloves, snacks, water, any important medications, and a helmet (for work at the crag). Service projects may include:

  • Trash pickup along roads, trails, the ballfield, river, etc.

  • Trail maintenance: clipping overgrowth, spreading woodchips, covering up redundant trails, demarcating climber trails

  • Graffiti removal and prevention

  • Installing a climbing anchors practice station

This is a rain or shine event. If we have to make any changes, we’ll notify registrants by email and on the RMF Facebook page. Please sign up if you plan to attend, and carpool with other volunteers if possible. We expect the work to wrap up no later than 2pm. Contact Cove at covertgeary@gmail.com with any questions.

For all Adopt a Crag events, please keep in mind the following:

  • Wear closed toed shoes. Long sleeves and pants are recommended.

  • Bring water, snacks, and extra layers for the elements.

  • Be prepared to be challenged, work hard, and gain sending karma points!

  • Although we'll be outside, if you are feeling ill or have had any recent exposure to Covid please reconsider and stay home to rest up!

All volunteers must complete the Access Fund waiver prior to volunteering.
