A Letter to Climbers from Jimmy Chin
As a climber, filmmaker, and National Geographic photographer, I have climbed all over the world. And there’s one thing that makes climbing in the United States truly exceptional—our unparalleled public lands system.
Our most treasured landscapes in this country are set aside and protected as public lands for all Americans, from the sweeping forests of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the iconic sandstone towers of southern Utah. These amazing landscapes are home to 60% of climbing in this country, and they are facing unprecedented threats from our political leaders.
Today, I am making an additional donation, above and beyond my yearly membership gift, to help Access Fund protect our public lands. And the best part...Black Diamond will match my gift dollar for dollar. Will you join me by becoming an Access Fund member today?
Access Fund is advocating for us in Washington, DC and at parks and forests across the country. I’ve seen firsthand the impressive work they are doing to protect our public climbing areas. They are moving the needle, but they need more resources.
I’ve been incredibly lucky to spend so much of my life adventuring on America’s public lands. But loving these lands is not enough. We must be willing to stand up and fight for them...not just for climbing access, but for the integrity of these amazing places, before it’s too late.
Sincerely,
Jimmy Chin
