Entertaining Tidbits
Fun stuff from around the web to keep you stoked.
- We are stoked for the American premiere of Climbing Blind, which tells the story of Jesse Dufton, a dedicated climber who has struggled with sight his entire life. It’s streaming online at Mountainfilm’s virtual festival, which is happening online now through May 25th (get your passes now!). The new Bivvy Pass gives you full access to over 100 films, a symposium and additional presentations, or you can purchase individual films, shorts programs or presentations for $10 each.
- From a not-so-casual ascent of the Diamond on Longs Peak to a theoretical barefoot onsight at Smith Rock, this roundup of 1-star Yelp reviews of classic climbs has us cracking up.
- Holy mountain lions! Check out this video of the inquisitive kitty that stopped by Sasha Digiulian’s house in Boulder, CO.
- Looking for some old-school stoke? A newly restored version of the 1978 cult classic “EL CAPITAN” is now available on YouTube in HD. Fred Padula’s award-winning film documents one of the earliest ascents of The Nose. Pretty rad!
Training Freebies
- Science + studies + sports psychology = stronger sends? The Beta Angel Project has written and compiled summaries from the 49 rock climbing performance-related research papers that came out in 2019. And with most climbing on hold, you’ll have plenty of time to incorporate these findings into your training plan in time to qualify for the 2024 Olympics.
- Get ready for your next big route! Ortovox’s Safety Academy Lab Rock is a digital training program for alpine rock climbers. It offers more than 40 video tutorials and four chapters of interactive educational material.
- What promotes zen-like balance, can be done without a partner, and—perhaps most importantly, given the state of the world—is completely hands-free? Yeah, slacklining is pretty pandemic-proof, and world record holder Mia Noblet has some mental tips to keep you off the ground and on the line.
